This Week's Parent Prompts
May 20, 2026 - Are You For Real? - Week 4: Anger is the Issue

This week, we continued in our series on the Sermon on the Mount by looking at where Jesus continues to challenge us by speaking about anger and how we need to learn how to reconcile and forgive each other.

God cares about our hearts and mings and how even our thoughts can condemn us if they are not righteous!

Matthew 5:21-26

21 “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder; and whoever murders will be liable to judgment.’ 22 But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, ‘You fool!’ will be liable to the hell of fire. 23 So if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, 24 leave your gift there before the altar and go. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. 25 Come to terms quickly with your accuser while you are going with him to court, lest your accuser hand you over to the judge, and the judge to the guard, and you be put in prison. 26 Truly, I say to you, you will never get out until you have paid the last penny.

This lesson is particularly important for this generation, and in particular our Youth Group. Many of our students have struggled with mistreating other students, calling them names, being rude, and disrespecting others because of anger. Learning how to reconcile with others is so important!

Parents: Does your home practice this kind of reconciliation? How do arguments or fights resolve?

This model that Jesus presents is not an easy one, but it is essential for us to follow if we want to truly follow Jesus!

Questions to ask your student this week:

  • What causes you to feel frustrated or angry?
  • Is there anything you and I need to reconcile?
  • How can you reconcile with those you don't get along with?
