This week, we dove into Acts 15. In this chapter, the new Gentile disciples are faced with a question: do gentiles need to adopt the Jewish laws and customs in order to follow Christ?
This question is important, but we also see Paul and the other Gentile missionaries and disciples solve the question by going to the Apostles and verifying the truth of what God said!
How do we verify claims about God, faith, and the Bible? Without a process by which we can discover and verify truth, we will be easily led astray by people who want to twist and abuse God's word!
2 Timothy 4:3-4:
3 For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, 4 and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.
Acts shows us that it is by grace alone we are saved - not following the jewish law and customs. But it also shows us how to handle doubt and confusion about God's word and our faith - by going back to what God said!
John 8:31-32:
31 So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
