This week, we continued our series on the Sermon on the Mount and I have the kids all play a game where they had to identify if a picture was AI generated or not (not as easy as you might think!). Then I asked "how can we tell a real true follower of Christ from a fake one?"
Jesus helps us with the answer by showing that true followers will be like salt and light in the world:
Matthew 5:13-16
13 “You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people's feet.
14 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that[a] they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
We discussed how salt has two properties: it preserves and it enhances flavor.
As Christians, we bring flavor to the world, a taste of Godliness, as we saw inthe Beatitudes last week, and we also preserve God's instructions by living them out and practicing them!
Then we talked about how the world is full of DARKNESS and how Christ is the light of the world (John 3:20-21). Like a nightlight in a dark room, we show people the way to Christ by obeying him and living the way he wants us too, we can open up opportunties to share the light of Christ with others!
